9/5 - Sound the Trumpets!

The Friday before a home game is a lot of fun at ND. The festivities start at 4:00 on Friday with the trumpeters from the marching band gathering in the rotunda under the Golden Dome of the administration building. Fans, employees, alumni, prospective students, parents and all sorts gather on each of the three levels above the rotunda to watch, listen and sing along. If this doesn't send chills up your spine then you probably need to have your pulse checked - or at the very least get the heck off campus for a couple of days until the game crowd has left!


The view in the above picture is from the second floor looking down on to the trumpeters. Turning the gaze upward you can see the painting on the ceiling inside the Golden Dome. and this is where I'd tell you something really cool and significant about the painting or the artist that did it. Well, not this time. Sorry. Can't remember anything in particular about it - other than it is pretty cool.

And after the mini-concert under the Dome, then it is off to the pep rally later that night in the Joyce Athletic Center. Everyone is pretty excited and full of anticipation of a good season - or at least one better than last year's disaster!
