Another week another flight

You know part of me thinks it would be a fun exercise to figure out how many planes I have been on this year. That, however, is a small part! This is a number I would probably do better *not* knowing! It's kind of like when I reached the Million Miler status on Delta this year. It is an odd milestone. It is a dubious 'accomplishment' as few people reach that level of travel. Then again, that is a *hell* of a lot of travel!

It is cool, though to realize that this flight will bring me to my 4th continent in the last 30 days! I am very fortunate to be one of those people that gets to experience the flattening of the world first hand.

I remember years ago I would say you could tell the seasoned business traveler from the non. The simple use of "get to travel" vs "have to travel" would tell whether you were spending a lot of time in an airplane seat. I remember in the early days of my business travel I would always talk about 'getting' to travel. Then it seemed to get in the way and take me away from things in my life I didn't want to miss. Suddenly I saw myself as 'having' to travel. Now, with a little more perspective, I can see that while it does take you away from your home and family that it is still a blessing to be able to see and experience other parts if the world. And more important than the Eiffel Towers, Coliseums and Great Walls of the world, is meeting the people of the world and getting to know, understand and appreciate humanity in all its different flavors and varying perspectives.

Yes. A million miles is a lot. And I have been on more planes this year than many people ever get on. And yes, I have missed some things. But all in all I think it is worth it - being a citizen of the world and getting to see all that stuff! Just kind of wish everything wasn't so far away, ya know!
